I recently had the opportunity to go on a tour of our local wineries. My coworker, Nicole, was scheduled to go but ended up not feeling well, so I (not too reluctantly) agreed to go. I am so glad I did! I visited a couple wineries I didn’t even know existed and others I have only heard about. The tour was organized by the Amish Country Lodging Council and since it was for local businesses this was a no tasting tour. So I didn’t get to taste all the different wines but now I can tell you a lot more about the wineries!
We started our tour in Charm at Guggisberg’s Doughty Glen Winery (only 5 miles from Berlin). They are still a new winery but have several wines to choose from. They are excited to keep growing!
Then we headed to Baltic Mill Winery where I fell in love! They have restored a gorgeous building from the 1900’s and made a warm and inviting place to enjoy a bottle of wine with friends. They are also a newer winery but from what I experienced, I’m sure they will have to keep growing too!
Raven’s Glen – now this wine I have tasted before (it can be purchased in most groceries stores). They have a selection of over 20 wines and also have a full service restaurant and event/banquet rooms.
From there we drove into the country on winding roads until we arrived at Yellow Butterfly; a beautifully restored 100 year old barn (now painted yellow). This looks like the perfect spot to enjoy delicious wine and the natural beauty that surrounds this place. They have Saturday evening BBQ’s and live music on Saturday afternoon.
From the country to the city… next up was YOLO in downtown Dover. This was a place that many of us didn’t know about… what a great surprise! YOLO has a retro vibe that invites you to relax on a couch or table to enjoy their wine. They also have live entertainment most Saturday evenings.
School House Winery was our next stop. What another unique winery! A restored one-room school house built in 1886, they have a wonderful relaxed atmosphere; both inside and outside beside their pond. They have live music on the weekends.
Swiss Heritage Winery may be better known as Broad Run Cheesehouse. You can get your wine and cheese in the same building… can it get better than that?
We concluded our tour by walking across the road to the most popular winery in the area… Breitenbach! I was excited to see this winery since it is where I send most of our guests. They have 40 varieties with too many metals and awards to count. They also host the very popular Dandelion Festival every May among other events.
There are even more wineries around that we did not have time to see. With so many different wineries, there is a winery for everyone! I told my husband we need go on a wine tour… this time there will definitely be tasting!
